MGM Springfield to Host Career and Vendor Showcase
Two-Day Event at the MassMutual Center
Dozens of Workshops Offer Job Hunting Skills, Advice

SPRINGFIELD (MA) March 18, 2013 – MGM Resorts International today announced MGM Springfield will host a free Career and Vendor Showcase at the MassMutual Center 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, March 19-20.

This informative event will provide insight on careers as well as details on training and development programs that MGM Springfield would bring to Springfield if it were awarded the Western Massachusetts gaming license. Residents interested in career opportunities will hear about the types of jobs that could be available at MGM Springfield. Local business owners will receive information that will help them better understand MGM's commitment to partnering with them to provide for economic growth throughout Springfield and the Western Massachusetts region.

The MGM Springfield proposal would bring 3,000 permanent jobs and 2,000 construction jobs to Downtown Springfield. MGM has established a hiring goal for MGM Springfield of 35 percent of the workforce from the City of Springfield and 90 percent from a combination of Springfield and the region. MGM also pledges an enviable comprehensive package of pay and benefits to employees with an average annual salary of $50,000.

MGM Springfield plans also call for locating a regional operations office and a centralized training facility at Union Station. MGM Resorts remains committed to integrating a revitalized Union Station into its proposal for Downtown Springfield. The vision for Union Station includes redesigning space to accommodate offices, classrooms, meeting rooms and a call center, all translating into jobs. MGM Resorts employees will discuss the kinds of training programs and development opportunities that MGM will offer at Union Station and throughout its Springfield development.

"By learning more we hope Springfield residents and neighbors become even more excited about the many career and vendor opportunities MGM Springfield will bring to the area."

Dozens of MGM Resorts employees, some with local ties, will lead workshops on different careers paths within MGM. Employees working in hotel operations, food and beverage, entertainment, finance, security, engineering, gaming and human resources will be present at the showcase. Attendees can benefit from one-on-one advice from these employees and hear about their experiences working at a Fortune 500 company. They will hear firsthand what it's like to be part of the MGM team. Small businesses and vendors will have the opportunity to speak directly with the MGM Resorts strategic sourcing team about contract possibilities and the steps to take to become a vendor.

Career workshops will focus on interview skills and the experience needed for future jobs. The career workshops are scheduled to last 45 minutes and will be offered throughout the day. Vendor workshops will provide an overview of MGM' s vendor certification and highlight vendor opportunities. Vendor workshops are scheduled for 11:30 a.m and 3:30 p.m. each day. Registration is not required to attend the workshops.

MGM partners and representatives from American International College, Holyoke Community College, Springfield Technical Community College and FutureWorks Career Center also will participate in the showcase. MGM views these community partners as vital for future workforce development at MGM Springfield. They will be on site to answer questions and also participate in business and career seminars.

Well over 3,000 jobs will need to be filled prior to the opening of the casino and individuals will need to complete the recruitment and screening steps, the training and the job placement process over the next year and a half. For the individual, it is important to learn about the potential job opportunities and the requirements for obtaining those jobs. We are grateful to MGM for organizing this event and allowing TWO to be a part of it."

MGM Springfield is proposed for 14.5 acres of land between Union and State streets, and Columbus Avenue and Main Street. MGM is seeking the sole gaming license in Western Massachusetts.
