MGM Springfield Earns Exclusive Chambers of Commerce Endorsements Throughout Western Massachusetts

SPRINGFIELD (MA) November 1, 2013 - MGM Resorts International today announced that its MGM Springfield proposal has received a flood of exclusive endorsements from chambers of commerce from all around Western Massachusetts. These organizations, which collectively represent approximately 2,500 businesses and more than 65 cities and towns throughout Western Massachusetts, have voted to support MGM Springfield in its bid for the sole Western Massachusetts casino operator license.

These latest partnerships are part of MGM's ongoing effort to work with the City of Springfield and the Western Massachusetts region to bring an approximately $800 million residential, retail, dining, and entertainment district to Downtown Springfield.

MGM Springfield is competing for the Western Massachusetts license with Mohegan Sun in Palmer, which borders Worcester County, a cutoff line for the Greater Boston gaming license. The key chamber alliances have been coveted relationships throughout this effort, and the overall competition.

The exclusive endorsements came from the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield (ACCGS) and its affiliate boards of directors from the East of the River Five Town Chamber of Commerce, Professional Women's Chamber of Commerce and the Springfield Chamber of Commerce; as well as the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce. Franklin County Chamber of Commerce also endorsed the project. MGM officials for many months have been meeting with the different chamber leadership teams to educate their membership about the MGM Springfield proposal.

Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts President and Chief Marketing Officer and MGM Springfield President, said, "We are honored to have the strong support of the Western Massachusetts business community. The endorsements of these chambers sends a clear signal to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission and businesses all over Western Massachusetts that our project has the components necessary to help grow the regional economy."

The ACCGS affiliate, East of the River Five Town Chamber of Commerce board, identified MGM as the economic development partner that the Western Massachusetts region has long sought. It also noted that throughout numerous meetings and conversations with the MGM team, MGM proved it had the passion, experience and vision to lead a regional renaissance.

The East of the River Five Town chamber consists of East Longmeadow, Hampden, Longmeadow, Ludlow and Wilbraham, all geographically situated between Springfield and Palmer.

MGM Springfield would employ 2,000 construction workers, and 3,000 permanent employees, 90 percent of whom are expected to come from the Western Massachusetts region. In addition, MGM Springfield has committed to spending approximately $50 million annually with regional vendors and suppliers.

MGM intends to work with these chambers of commerce to ensure that their member businesses, as well as all businesses throughout Western Massachusetts, have the access and opportunity to partner with MGM during construction and procurement processes. MGM has committed to hosting quarterly supplier and vendor workshops, working with these chambers to identify qualified suppliers and vendors, and using these chambers as a clearinghouse for bid packages on goods and services in their regions.

Jeffrey S. Ciuffreda, President of the ACCGS, said, "MGM has been transparent and forthcoming regarding its plans and has made every effort to understand our members' needs and priorities, and in turn has designed ways for our members to capitalize on an $800 million investment in the urban center of our region."

Hornbuckle added, "At MGM, we strongly believe in being a good corporate citizen, and this begins with working hard to earn the support and trust of those people who are the foundation of the existing economy. We view these organizations as important partners in assisting MGM to ensure the economic benefits of this project are realized by Western Massachusetts businesses."

Michael Supranowicz, President & CEO of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, said, "MGM's willingness to meet and explain their plans for business partnerships and cross-marketing opportunities are unparalleled and will benefit not only businesses here in the Berkshires, but businesses throughout all of Western Massachusetts."

MGM Springfield recently received these endorsements and they will be included in MGM Resorts' detailed response to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission's Phase 2 Application for a resort casino license in Western Massachusetts, which is currently due Dec. 31.

Chambers of commerce are a form of business networks. Their goal is to further the interests of businesses. Business owners in towns and cities form these local societies to advocate on behalf of the business community.

MGM Springfield, an approximately $800 million resort, is proposed for 14.5 acres of land between Union and State streets, and Columbus Avenue and Main Street. On July 16, Springfield voters approved by a vote of 58 to 42 percent the MGM Springfield proposal. As a result, the proposal can move forward for consideration for the Western Massachusetts gaming license by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission pending suitability determination.
